Plain Sailing for Greasley Electronics!..
Plain Sailing for Greasley Electronics and one of the best testimonials received this week was the outcome for the company Castle Ship Technical Management Ltd. They are UK based ship management business which primarily manages and operates large offshore specialist vessels for charter in the renewables and subsea sectors.
One of the vessels they manage is the Atlantic Discovery, an 84M Multipurpose Supply Vessel (MPSV). Due to COVID 19 the vessel was put into Cold Layup and powered down for a number of months due to the international restrictions on movement for crew and vessels.
Issues with the vessel
During 2021 when this vessel was brought back into service there were a number of issues that had arisen as generally Legacy electronics systems don’t respond well to reboots and power outages, a cold layup takes this one step further as a Cold system is even worse and plays havoc with the IC’s.
One of the systems that didn’t respond and refused to power up was a system called a Datasound. This is a product produced by Rolls Royce to measure the fluid levels of the numerous tanks aboard such as Fuel, Ballast, and Fresh water to name a few. Unfortunately though the version they had is long out of production, no longer supported and parts unobtainable. ‘Where do they start?’
Well, they initially spent a few weeks trouble shooting, ordered various second hand components from suppliers around the world that deal in dismantling vessels and salvaging parts such as these. Unfortunately when you purchase these parts they are in an unknown condition, provided without warranty and there is a 50/50 chance of it working. In their case they either obtained defective parts or the specific part they needed was not available.
Fortunately they had dealt with Greasley Electronics on a number of occasions before with regard to pcb repair and they knew that if anyone could fix it, we could!
So they decided to enlist Greasley’s in attempting a repair. Once we had agreed a price they removed the entire system from the ship, wired it up as a test rig and hand delivered it to us due to the fragile nature of the system.
A few weeks later and it was ready, Castle Ship Management collected it in person as they couldn’t rely on any courier to handle it in the way required.
It was then installed and the system powered up properly as expected.👌 One happy customer! 😀
Needless to say the 84 million pound ship is now in full working order.
Sustainability at it’s best. So this is why this repair was ‘ Plain Sailing for Greasley Electronics!’
✅PCB Repairs are the way forward to save businesses money. In fact, circuit board repair can save thousands! This is a prime example.
