Electronic repairs in automation environments – This week, Sarah and John from Greasley Electronics had the opportunity to visit the incredible Marks & Spencer Automated Warehouse in Castle Donington — and what an experience it was!
🙏 A huge thank you to Shawn Walster, Engineering Asset Manager at M&S, for taking the time to show us around this vast, high-tech facility. With machines running 24/7 to fulfil both store and online clothing orders, the scale of automation in action was nothing short of impressive.
What caught our attention?
It was the sheer number of electronic components and sensors at work – from barcode scanners to control boards – all operating constantly to keep everything moving. However, what quickly became apparent was that many of these sensors weren’t performing at their full potential. And if they fail altogether? So does production.
In an environment like this, even the smallest fault can bring operations to a standstill. We saw this happen. Click here to see the short video.
While M&S has a brilliant team handling some of the repairs in-house, they now partner with Greasley Electronics to manage the more complex repairs – particularly on barcode sensors and control systems that are crucial to the warehouse’s seamless operation.
Why it matters
This visit reinforced what we’ve been saying for years:
👉 Electronic repair and refurbishment is essential, not optional.
👉 It’s a cost-effective, sustainable, and smarter alternative to simply replacing components.
👉 In environments running 24/7, proactive maintenance and expert repair can save thousands – not just in part costs, but in avoided downtime.
We’re proud to work alongside forward-thinking organisations like M&S, who are constantly looking to cut costs, improve efficiency, and prolong the life of their vital automation systems.
If your business relies on automation and hasn’t explored the benefits of professional electronics repair, now’s the time.
Let’s talk about how we can help you stay running at full speed!
